WHAT YOU’LL NEED

STEP BY STEP

TIPS

  • Shoot on it! Don’t judge it before you try it!
Don’t forget camera see differently than our eyes. When I painted the first few boards I though ‘Nah, it’s horrible!’ then I forced myself to test it and photograph something on it and suddenly I was like ‘OMG!I love it!’So don’t judge it before you try it.
  • Space saver!
Save some space by using both sides of the board!
  • What colours to pick?
Go for different shades of the same colour for a powerful ‘blend’ which will be complementing your subject and not distracting from it. Blending darker and lighter shades of the same colour always works great! Check out Pinterest for some colour inspiration and try to recreate your favourites using this method. Or go to my INSTAGRAM to get inspired – most of my boards were painted with this method.
  • What paint to pick?
If you are going to place food directly on the board, I suggest finding good non toxic/eco friendly brand.

HAPPY PAINTING!  Don’t forget to tag me in your creations – I’d love to see your boards!

  8. Where do you buy your plywood from and is it any particular type?
Also what matte lacquer do you recommend?

    1. Hey Rochelle, I get my plywood from B&Q – it is just a plain one 🙂 As for the lacquer, because I don’t use one on mine, there is no brand really I can recommend. But I suggest buying just a sample and try it on a sample plywood before paining the whole board 🙂 Hope this helps!

  9. Woooow. It’s amazing, I love it!!! I’m gonna try it..

What do you use on the other wood? (on the bottom)

    1. Hey Maria! So happy to hear that you love it! The other one is made with the same method but there is more white mixed in 🙂 Hope this helps! x

  10. Hi, Bea!

What an excellent idea – I was so happy when I saw this technique and I can’t wait to try it. 🙂

Since I don’t have any tester paint pots to buy here in Croatia, could you tell me how much do they weigh – how much did you use for one board?

Thanks so much for this tutorial!

    1. Hi Ana! So happy you like this idea! It really is simple and effective! The pots are 30g each, however there was paint left, so you would need less than that depending on the size of the board you are painting.

Sending best wishes from (surprisingly) sunny England! Bea x
